One Of Life's Best Lessons

Happy happy November to you! I hope your Halloween yesterday was filled with everything you wanted it to be! I'm exercising crazy self control not to share our costumes, but we have a party tonight and I'm hoping we can keep them a secret until then. I have to say, I'm ecstatic at how well they turned out and how we pulled off these characters!

Today, the very first prompt of the Blogember challenge is one of the best lessons life has shown you.

I feel like I have so much left to learn about life...and I know I definitely do! The older I get, the easier it is to live each day ready for fresh knowledge or a brand new take on something I might be stuck on. One of life's BEST lessons so far has been the insurmountable strength of the human spirit. People (including myself) are remarkably resilient. They can go through hell and back 7,000 times and come through softer and kinder. The world can crush their hearts and stomp on their dreams until hope seems thousands of miles beyond reach...and they pull themselves up and cradle what they have left with the fierce preciousness it deserves.

In a way, we are all waging war on something, whether we are vocal about it or choose to keep it more private. I adore the quote the struggle is part of the story because our challenges build character. They are shaping us into who we were meant to become and creating the stepping stones so that we are armed with the tools we need to live our best life.

You are more than welcome to put this on your blog to share the love. I would really appreciate it! :)

Let's do it! Link up your first post of Blogember below.

  1. I totally agree with you --humans are resilient. I see this every day with my students. No matter what their home lives may be like, they are determined to break the cycle and make something of their lives. You're right, the good, the bad --it all makes us who we are today and I think that's pretty special :) I've linked up, love this first prompt!

  2. So true! It's so hard to remember this when you're in the trenches...but challenges really do build character. I'm so excited for this series and your inspiration! :)

  4. I must express my scepticism about the philosophy of "enjoying the effort." Yes, it makes sense to be willing to do the work that is necessary to achieve your goals, but I don't see the point of viewing the work itself as something innately positive. In fact, the whole idea of progress consists of achieving goals with increasingly less work. A well-written article, but I disagree with its ideas.

    1. If work itself hold no value, and only the goal holds a reward, than the fastest way to the goal would always be the preferred route. This is not always the case. In some instances, yes, it is. What about when you take a scenic route on a drive somewhere? What if the fastest means to an end are cheating? Given the author of this blogs story, would not the fastest medical route to a goal of a cure be human experimentation? If you hike, bike, or run, is the goal the end? Then why not drive? and progress in physical exercise does no equate to achieving a goal with less work, in fact it can lead to the opposite, those last 10 pounds the hardest to lose.

  5. Thanks so much for making these challenges, Tahnie; I loved writing the first one. In my post I wrote about people that have disappointed me and people that I admire more than anything; you are part of the second group. Which you probably already know, but, you are amazing.

I also feel really confused about the comment above me, and I encourage you to ignore it. Life IS the effort.

  6. It is so crazy how things are always there to be seen when they are needed. Struggle is so hard, but realizing that, ONE DAY, the struggle will in fact be over is such an amazing feeling. The sense of hope it gives me is so overwhelming. Thanks for an awesome prompt to write about :)

  8. Yes ,struggle is part of the story. It are the struggles that have built my character and propelled me forward a stronger individual. Happy Sharefest and good luck with Blogember. I just completed 31 days of Blogging in October and have grown enormously from it.

  9. You're right, people are amazingly resilient. It's amazing what people can go through and come out even stronger on the other side. I think a big part of it is attitude: two people can look at the very same situation very differently, and as a result make it through it very differently. Stopping by from Sharefest!

  10. I too feel that I still have so much to learn about life. This week I lost my 96-year old grandma. I knew this was coming, but I am surprised by what a sense of loss I feel. My husband has left several family members while I have not. I felt sad when they passed, but nothing like the loss I feel now. Life just keeps throwing us curve balls doesn't it.

BTW - I like your quote from Maya Anjelou

  11. Great post. Life has provided me so many lessons. As cliché as it is, I believe that which doesn't kill you really does make you stronger. Those who struggle most are often the most brilliant and wonderful folks.

  12. I did the ultimate blog challenge in October. Don't think I can do that again this month because I'll be a bit busier. But love this post!!
