Letting Go Of Superwoman

The fabulous and oh so brilliant ladies of SITS are hosting a Letting Go Link Up this week.

In case you don't know, SITS stands for The Secret to Success is Support and they are a group of over 8,000 women bloggers who are all about supporting each other. Now, isn't that a refreshing joint effort in these days of women tearing each other down? I think so.

I am ecstatic to be a part of it! So head on over, read what other women are freeing themselves of, and let them inspire you to let go and truly live the life you've always known you could live. Instead of obsessing over how things should be in your life, celebrate things for what they actually are. There is so much stunning beauty in the imperfect facets of our stories.
Now, for my part of Letting Go...

I'm letting go of Superwoman and saying hello to...

ME.

In all of my sleep deprived, stressed out momma, trying to be everything to everyone, overwhelmed glory.

In my head, Superwoman is confident in her parenting skills and knows she is doing the right thing; always; because after all, she is educated, she knows better. Superwoman never thinks about what a stellar nanny she was for four years and how she feels like she's failing at motherhood in comparison. Superwoman isn't hurt by painful words thrown at her or the ridiculous things people do, she's immune to it all, it just slides right off her back. In my brain, Superwoman has an immaculate house, perfectly decorated, and it is always running smoothly. She is always always caught up on laundry, and even has the time to put it away (gasp). In my brain Superwoman is never weak, always strong, on the ball, at her best, all while in her cutest outfits, of course. Superwoman doesn't get scared waiting for the doctor to call with test results, she tells herself it will be okay, and if it isn't? She will deal with the utmost grace and composure. Superwoman does it all with a smile on her face and is the ultimate female, making it look effortless.

But my heart steps in and says, Girl you're crazy.

And I realize two things.

ONE.
Superwoman doesn't exist.

and

TWO.
If she did? She would be dreadfully boring.

Thus the reason I'm letting go of her and embracing me.

Me, myself and I. The girl who has a Bachelor degree in Child Development, was a nanny for 4 years, volunteered at a Children's Hospital for 2 years, and yet still feels overwhelmed with motherhood. The girl who feeds her daughter 99% organic and yet still drinks Diet Coke to fuel her energy throughout the day. The girl who has laundry piles all over, and yet decides a random trip to the park is much needed. The girl who doesn't have time for makeup some days, but always makes time for a frilly headband and lip gloss. The girl who is obsessed with cardigans. The girl who knows the importance of a clean house, but also relishes in making memories and going on adventures with her little one. The girl who recognizes momma guilt in it's purest and worst form and yet knows how much she loves her daughter; she risked her life for her once, and would do it again in a heartbeat. And that? That is so much stronger and brighter than pesky insecurities.

And you know what? I think I like this girl. This woman. This momma.

No, I definitely like her.

She is quirky. She is wise. She has fun. She turns can'ts into cans and dreamed into plans. She believed she could, so she did. She has issues just like everyone. She's a little crazy, but that is where she keeps all the good stuff. She's real.

  9. Being real is SO much better than being superwoman. And she probably is boring. Look at all the things you have learned by being who you are! Looking at all the amazing things you have overcome just by being you. And you are the best YOU to be the momma to your little one!

  13. Love this idea! I might copy this idea for my blog as well! Thanks for sharing! What a great thing to keep it real and .... well, I also prioritize park visits with my son over laundry.... and frankly, while it does leave undone piles of laundry all over the place, LOL, my son has a happy life, so who cares?
