I'm linking up over at The Gypsy Mama for her Five Minute Friday: Photo Prompt. The challenge is to find a photo on your camera and write about it for 5 minutes. Here goes nothing!
This photo screams connection to me.
It was taken after my Great Uncle's funeral and although it was an expected departing, of course still sad, difficult. Leaves you wondering who is next. I don't do well at funerals since 5 years ago. I still try to go and put on a brave face.
Three generations. I know we have 4 and I am absent from this photo but I love that my grandpa is leaning in to get a kiss from Little Miss Sookie and she is busy holding on to my mom's grandma necklace. The obvious physical connecting thread here is beyond precious to me. Also the emotional. I was worrying I would have a nervous breakdown over Christmas because I physically ached that my miracle was here and that my grandma was not. It didn't make sense in my head or in my heart.
Sookie is a joy for many people. She's a light and hope that a lot of people around her needed. I think on some incredible level, she knows this and is blindingly aware. I don't ever want her to feel pressure because of this, but I do want her to always carry a featherweight heart and refuse to let negative emotions weigh her down.
Amazing how much you can capture in 5 minutes, isn't it? Because you've drawn us right into every detail of that beautiful photo and painted all the emotional layers for the reader to share.
ReplyDeleteSometimes a single moment is worthy of so much more than we normally give it and it's just wonderful to hear you translate this moment for your readers.
Thank you for sharing!

I love that little hand grasping the necklace... that connection. So glad you drew attention to it with your words! The love between generations is such a beautiful gift.
ReplyDeleteSweet photo - I have some of my littles like this too and it melts me. I think of the somedays when they'll cherish it as much as I do.
ReplyDeleteThis is such a sweet photo! And your words capture the picture so beautifully! Thank you.

This is beautiful ~ both the picture and your words. Thank you for sharing the emotion of it. I can feel your heart in it.
ReplyDeletewandered here from Lisa-Jo's blog :)
ReplyDeletethat's a really cool picture. Sookie seems to know something no one else knows, like some sort of a divine secret that God whispered into her ear just before the picture was taken :)

I'm visiting from Lisa-Jo's blog too.
ReplyDeleteSookie steals this photo. She connects with the camera, has a kind of quiet half-smile, that makes this photo and moment priceless. Beautiful. :)
